In which a zombie comic art captures my imagination

I love this nightmarish comic art. I discovered it from this site while looking for some infographics I need for work. I thought it would make a lovely book cover for Richard Matheson’s I Am Legend. THAT IS, if he wrote Robert Neville’s character as a woman. Now that’s one survival story I’d like to read. A female fighting zombies. Would she spend her days drinking and smoking just as Robert Neville did in his despair? How would she manage the madness and isolation in such a hopeless situation?

Thinking of female leads, Mina Harker of Bram Stoker’s Dracula would be the ideal heroine—–she’s intelligent, fearless, and would fight for her life and for the one she loves.  Jane Austen’s Anne Elliot (Persuasion) would also make a great zombie survivor—–she’ll never leave you, she won’t forget you even after you flirted with another survivor. I’m certain she’ll be useful in emergency situations. And let’s not forget the independent and hardworking Jane Eyre. You can be blind and a cripple and still she will choose to be your protector.

Strong women all. But will they survive?
